Non-Board coaches are all individuals who are not employed by Chicago Public Schools. Any individual older than 18 is eleigible to coach at CPS schools after completing following procedure:

1)       Obtain a referral letter from your school’s principal requesting that you be processed as a non-board coach. The letter must:

a.       Be on your school’s stationary; and,

b.       Be signed by your school’s principal; and,

c.       Be addressed to Mr. Calvin Davis, Director, Sports Administration; and,

d.       Include your name and the sport and level you will be coaching.

2)       Bring your principal’s referral letter along with a photo ID to the Department of Sports Administration’s Office. Our Office is located at  501 W 35th Street. We are located in the Teachers Academy for Math and Science building. Our hours are Monday thru Friday,  9am – 4pm.

3)       After you have been processed by the Department of Sports Administration you will be referred to CPS’ New Hire Center, located at 320 N Elizabeth Street, to be processed further.

4)       In order to be processed by the New Hire Center, along with your referrals from your principal and the Department of Sports Administration, you must have  a CPS Employee Physical Examination Form completed by a licensed physician , and,  your CPS Employee Physical Examination Form must include the results of a tuberculosis test. Please see attached “CPS Physical Examination Form”  for more details.

Once you have been processed by the New Hire Center you will be issued an Employee ID Number. Your Employee ID Number is critical; without a valid Employee ID Number we will not be able to pay you.

The deadline to register for the ESSP fall season is Friday September 12th at 5:00pm. Therefore, all non-board coaches must have a valid Employee ID Number by September 12th or you will not be able to coach for the fall season. If you already have an employee ID number contact the New Hire Center to make sure that your number is still valid; after a period of time Employee ID Numbers become invalid.

If you have any questions about the process please contact the New Hire Center directly at: 773 553-1142.
